Members of the Conservative Muslim Forum attended the Holocaust Memorial Day Event in Liverpool, which signifies the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. Lord Sheikh, the chairman of the Conservative Muslim Forum along with Lady Sheikh and Mr Mohammad Amin and Mrs Tahira Amin joined more than 1,600 people at the event that also included genocide survivors.
The Holocaust Memorial Day is an annual event that commemorates the horrific death of six million Jews who were killed during the Holocaust. It is believed that in total 15 million people died during the Holocaust including disabled children, Jehovah’s witnesses and gypsies.
The event also serves to highlight the dangers of anti-Semitism and other forms of discrimination. Gordon Brown delivered a personal message to mark the occasion which was emphasised that the ‘unimaginable suffering’ of the Holocaust should never be forgotten.
The well attended event including the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Hazel Blears MP and former BBC war correspondent and independent MP Martin Bell.
