Lord Sheikh was a member of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association delegation that visited Sri Lanka between 17th-23rd October 2010.
The delegation had meetings with the President of Sri Lanka (H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa), Prime Minister (Hon. D.M. Jayaratne MP), Speaker of the Parliament (Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa MP), Ministry of Health, Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning (Dr. Sarath Amunugama – who I had met in London prior to our visit), British High Commissioner and his staff, leaders of business communities, leaders of the opposition party (United National Party), leaders of the Muslim Congress group, Minister of External Affairs (Hon. G.L. Peiris MP) and the Deputy Minister, Governor of Eastern Province (Hon. Mohan Wijewickrema), the head of the de-mining operation in Jaffna, Community Representatives in Jaffna, leaders of the Eastern Provincial Council, Sri Lankan Military Commanders in Trincomalee and staff at the British Council.
The delegation also visited the Chamber of Parliament to view the proceedings of the House, the Commonwealth War Grave Site, Military Headquarters in Jaffna, Brandix Clothing Factory, Millennium IT Campus and the Rehabilitation Villages.
