Lord Sheikh was asked to represent the House of Lords at the 6th Consultative Assembly of Parliamentarians for the International Criminal Court & the Rule of Law which was held in Kampala, Uganda on 27-28 May 2010. The Assembly, which was organised by Parliamentarians for Global Action, was attended by Parliamentarians from around the world and the main subject on the agenda was the Rome Statute.

Lord Sheikh chaired the session entitled “The Role of Parliamentarians in advancing the Deterrent Effect of the Rome Statute system and its Impact on Peace, Democracy and Human Rights” at the Assembly in which Mr Luis Moreno Ocampo, Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, was the main speaker.

Lord Sheikh also spoke in the session and talked about strengthening the Rome Statute and making efforts to get more ocuntries signing and ratifying the Statute. He also talked about the situations in Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and Uganda.

He also stated that Parliamentarians have a pivotal role to play to promote peace, democracy, the rule of law and maintenance of human rights by informing, convening and mobilisation of action in their respective Parliaments.
