Lord and Lady Sheikh visited the Woolwich Mosque located in Plumstead, South East London.
After the murder drummer Lee Rigby, his colleagues had a fundraising event and they donated some of the funds raised to the Woolwich Mosque. The officers made a presentation of a cheque to the mosque and Lord and Lady Sheikh were invited to attend the event and matched the donation.
The monies donated to the mosque will be utilized to promote youth activities. Lord Sheikh spoke at the event and referred to the contributions by people from the Indian Sub-continent including Muslims, during the First and Second World War.
As we are commemorating the centenary of the WWI, Lord Sheikh stated that the first Victoria Cross awarded to the servicemen from the Indian Sub-continent was Sepoy Khudadad Khan.
